All of us associate with language, use language and have an existence in a society we need language, it is the way to express our thoughts. Everyday we communicate through language to others to express instructions opionions thoughts questions it is our way to prove Just like we use language to express our thoughts we fail to recognise how actually language is able to restrict our thought.

Deliberately Orwell uses these paradox statements to show the extent of which the citizens have failed to understand the true meanings of the words, they don’t understand the language anymore so are fooled into “double thinking”. They believe that when Oceania is at war it is also in peace at the same time, two contradictory statements that would be challenged had rational thinking not been eliminated through the inability to verify facts. Orwell wants us to see how one state controlling the media will limit the language used which then as a result limits the thoughts of citizens because they don’t have the language anymore to express otherwise.
